L'AR7 include un Network Support Package (NSP): un Linux®-based router software sviluppato da Telogy Software® basato sul Kernel 2.4.17 di Monta Vista che sovraintende a tutte le funzioni del router.
Anche per questo dispositivo, il cui  Firmware è Linux®-based, non sono stati distribuiti i sorgenti,è possibile comunque prelevare gli ultimi aggiornamenti ufficiali direttamente dal sito di SMC Networks.
Il firmware viene salvato nel chip di memoria Flash RAM di Intel, alloggiato sulla parte frontale, visibile fra i due “blocchetti” dei led, con un'etichetta bianca riportante la versione.
