Rilasciato WifiWare 1.4 il Router in un Sistema Operativo Stampa E-mail
WifiWare è una distribuzione Linux basata su Slackware 10.2 (kernel 2.4.32) costruita ad'hoc per la creazione di un nodo Wireless Wi-Fi molto versatile e potente offrendo le funzionalità di FTP Server (Vsftpd), Router wireless, server VPN (Pptpd e Openvpn). WifiWare offre il supporto a grsecurity ed una moltitudine di drivers per dispositivi wireless oltre a NDISWrapper per far girare anche drivers scritti per Windows. Vi è così una completa compatibilità ai chipset Prism (linux-WLAN-ng ed hostap), Atheros (madwifi), acx100, rt2xxx per schede pci, usb, e pcmcia. Il sistema è purtroppo sprovvisto di una GUI (interfaccia grafica) e sia i drivers che la maggior parte delle finzionalità sono contenuti nel cd ma da installare a parte. Il sistema è molto completo ed offre pieno supporto a connessioni crittate tramine OpenSSL, OpenSSH, e GnuPG. Tra le varie funzionalità troviamo il supporto al transparent IP (Layer 3) proxy ARP bridging, al WPA e WPA2 (IEEE 802.11i / RSN), server RADIUS, server Apache 1.3.35 con supporto a Dynamic Shared Object (DSO), SSL, e PHP.

Llinux 2.4.31 kernel with support for imq, l7filtering, grsec and mppe vpn compression.

Optimized kernel, removed support for many unneeded features.

Wireless drivers for Prism (linux-wlan-ng and hostap drivers), atheros (madwifi driver), acx100 and rt2xxx pci, usb and pcmcia cards.

Hostapd - user space daemon for Access Point and authentication servers. The current version supports Linux hostap, madwifi and Prism54 drivers.

wpa_supplicant - WPA Supplicant with support for WPA and WPA2 (IEEE 802.11i / RSN).

Bridge-utils - administration utilities for creating and maintaining network bridges.

Parprouted - daemon for transparent IP (Layer 3) proxy ARP bridging.

Webmin - web based interface for system administration under Linux.

Kismet - 802.11 layer2 wireless network detector, sniffer, and intrusion detection system. Kismet will work with any wireless card which supports raw monitoring (rfmon) mode, and can sniff 802.11b, 802.11a, and 802.11g traffic. (http://www.kismetwireless.net/)

FreeRADIUS - one of the most modular and feature-rich RADIUS servers available today. (http://www.freeradius.org/)

Ndiswrapper - implements Windows kernel API and NDIS (Network Driver Interface Specification) API within Linux kernel. A Windows driver for wireless network card is then linked to this implementation so that the driver runs natively, as though it is in Windows, without binary emulation.

Support for fully encrypted network connections with OpenSSL, OpenSSH, and GnuPG.

Apache 1.3.35 web server with Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) support, SSL, and PHP.

Pptpd and openvpn packages for creating full featured VPN solutions.

Vsftpd package for creating FTP servers.

Quagga package for dynamic routing protocol.
